FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL FORM ARTO 354 DIG PHOTO
NAME: Micki McClain
The conceptual basis for my proposed project is:
My grandfather recently passed away and after he died I was given his pocketwatch. I also had a matching pocket watch, which had stopped running. His was still ticking away, so I felt the two had an odd relationship. I would like to explore that relationship in terms of time, age, and emotion.
The primary subject matter to be photographed is:
I would like to focus on the two watches, as well as the landscape of the ocean, namely where the ocean meets the land. I feel like those places are great examples of what can happen over vast periods of time. Also the color palette of the ocean is cooler, which will help translate the more serious emotions I am trying to capture. I am also thinking about photographing hands of my family as a direct version of age emotion and time, although I am debating how well photographs of hands will translate with the rest of the work.
My inspiration/role model for this work is:_Renate Aller, a fellow students work in B/W
The general location and conditions in which I plan to shoot the project is (indoor, out-of-doors, artificial light, rain, studio etc.):
With the ocean it is sort of luck of the draw, but I am hoping for dry slightly foggy weather. I will be shooting morning to miday. Some of my images may be shot indoors, but using as much natural light as possible.
My vision for the final prints is as follows:
Print/image size_11 X 17____ Paper surface: _Matt_____
Please note that course requirements are such that you must print 16-bit and have a fully color -managed workflow – so printing in MR3 is HIGHLY recommended – plan accordingly!
This project will challenge me and allow me to exhibit the ways in which I have grown as an artist/photographer over the last term in this way:
Although the ocean has more muted colors, this will help me deal with color overall. I will also be forced to take many images of a similar scene. I believe this will give me some practice in shooting many photos in one of my set up scenes. Overall I’m hoping that the simplified layout of the ocean, (compared to a city), as well as the subject matter, will let me explore digital photography in a more incremented way. Perhaps that will let me feel more connected/pleased with the work.
The help I need from you is:
I am still debating whether or not photos of hands would work with the rest of the work. I am also contemplating utilizing some panorama shots, so I may need your help with editing.
